Field Service Technician UPS/Switchgear 

SUMMARY: 

We are hiring a Field Service Technicians on behalf of an electrical testing and service company with a strong focus in the data center space. This person should have a Journeyman Electrical License and preferably be based in Texas, Georgia, or South Carolina but anywhere in the SE is acceptable. This role involves traveling within the Texas and Southeast regions to provide technical support, including UPS systems and generator installations and testing, at customer sites like data centers and manufacturing facilities. Compensation for this role is up to a $105K base + bonus.

BASIC FUNCTIONS:
The Field Service Technician is responsible for providing project management support throughout all stages of the project lifecycle. This includes scheduling and coordinating onsite activities from initial assessments through to the final Integrated Systems Testing (IST). The Field Service Technician works closely with the Service team, Project team, Accounting, Logistics, and Estimating to ensure all projects are executed to the highest quality standards and comply with applicable regulations.

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Perform equipment testing and maintenance on UPSs, ATSs, Battery Cabinets, PDUs, generators, and other electrical gear.
  • Perform minor preventive maintenance (PM) on generators, ATSs, UPSs, DC plants, and other critical equipment.
  • Assist with minor repairs/installations in the office and warehouse.
  • Assist with onsite supervision during equipment replacement/installation at customer facilities as needed.
  • Other duties as required.
  • Assist the Director of Service in creating project schedules, including equipment delivery, electrical subcontractor work, and startup/testing activities.
  • Maintain weekly schedules to ensure project milestones are met.
  • Coordinate onsite efforts, including directing electrical subcontractor work, resolving field issues, and ensuring compliance with relevant codes and regulations.
  • Perform pre-job site visits to collect data for developing estimates and scopes of work.
  • Review electrical plans and designs for technical accuracy, identifying discrepancies or risks. Work with estimating to create alternative solutions when necessary.
  • Supervise the startup and/or commissioning of company-supplied equipment.
  • Plan, conduct, and document Integrated Systems Testing (IST) for company-supplied equipment.
  • Ensure all installations meet applicable standards.
  • Assist Logistics with scheduling equipment testing and ensure the safety of personnel during testing.
  • Document testing activities properly, including reporting on batteries and ensuring their charging as needed.
  • Provide onsite support and troubleshooting during commissioning (CX) activities at customer facilities.

SCHEDULE:
This is an exempt position with a typical work schedule of Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM. However, the actual schedule may vary based on project needs, and the individual in this role may be required to work early mornings, evenings, or weekends. Travel to various locations across the country is required.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability to lift materials up to 50 pounds occasionally.
  • Ability to bend, crouch, and reach continuously while performing job tasks.
  • Ability to remain seated for extended periods.
  • Dexterity for typing, operating a computer, and performing filing and office tasks with attention to detail.
  • Ability to spend significant time reading on paper and on a computer.
